The flag of the Kingdom of Thailand, also known as the tricolour flag, features five horizontal stripes in red, white, blue, white, and red. The central blue stripe is twice as wide as each of the other four. This design was adopted on 28 September 1917, according to a royal decree issued by Rama VI. Since 2016, this day has become an important national celebration in Thailand honoring its flag.

The colors of the flag are said to represent nation-religion-king, an unofficial motto of Thailand. Red symbolizes the land and people, white stands for religions, and blue represents the monarchy, which was an auspicious color for Rama VI. Notably, as Thailand declared war on Germany in July 1917, some observe that its flag now shares colors with those of the UK, France, Russia, and the United States.
