The Niue flag is a distinctive design featuring the Union Jack in the upper left corner with stars forming a diamond pattern. The yellow background, a rare feature among British ensign flags, symbolizes the bright sunshine and warm feelings of the Niuean people towards New Zealand. Adopted on 15 October 1975, this flag's unique design was created by Patricia Rex. The four smaller stars represent the Southern Cross constellation, emphasizing Niue's connection to New Zealand. The larger yellow star within a blue disc represents the surrounding deep blue sea and the self-governing island of Niue.
