The flag of Namibia was adopted on March 21, 1990, upon the country's independence from South Africa. The design process involved a public competition and combined elements from several submissions to create a unified national symbol. Each color in the flag has significant meaning:

Red: Represents the people of Namibia, symbolizing their heroism and determination for equal opportunity.
White: Signifies peace, unity, tranquility, and harmony.
Green: Symbolizes vegetation and agricultural resources.
Blue: Depicts the Namibian sky and Atlantic Ocean, emphasizing water resources and rain.
Golden-yellow sun: Represents life and energy.
