The Rising Sun Flag, known in Japanese as Kyokujitsu-ki, is a historic symbol that consists of a red disc with sixteen red rays emanating from it. Originating during the Edo period (1603–1868 CE), this flag was used by feudal warlords and later adopted as the war flag of the Imperial Japanese Army in 1870.
The Rising Sun Flag is rich in symbolism, representing Japan's maritime heritage. It was also the naval ensign for the Imperial Japanese Navy from 1889 until the end of World War II. Today, variations of this design can be seen in various aspects of Japanese culture, including fishermen's banners and seasonal festivities.
Despite its historical significance, the Rising Sun Flag remains controversial in Korea and China due to its association with Japanese militarism. This affordable replica captures the essence of this iconic flag without the controversies surrounding it.
